SY Nordpohl

Ocean legend with

state-of-the-art equipment

An elegant and powerful sailing yacht, the NORDPOHL is one of 62 ocean-going cruising yachts built as a slop worldwide, built in 1988 by the renowned shipyard Conyplex, now Contest in Medemblik, the Netherlands, and fully certified by Lloyds. Designed by Dick Zaal with comfortable facilities, the Contest 38 S offers high efficiency at sea and comfort in port. The lovingly restored NORDPOHL offers a luxurious atmosphere, ample storage space and headroom as well as a smart and effective layout, making her ideal for long voyages. The 38-foot vessel has a spacious center cockpit, a practical layout and excellent sailing characteristics.

SY Nordpohl was extensively restored from 2021 to 2024. The yacht was brought up to the latest technical safety standards and equipped with 5G netting and numerous comfort upgrades. The preservation of the high-quality basic substance, including the teak deck and teak fittings, determined the entire restoration. The refit also included replacing the sails and all running and standing materials. Compared to a new mass-produced yacht, SY Nordpohl now has a unique seaworthiness and high value retention.

A sustainable touring vehicle with a minimal ecological footprint

As an inexhaustible and clean source of energy, the wind powers us on the water. This not only reduces carbon dioxide emissions, but also other harmful emissions such as nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide, which contribute to air pollution and climate change. We also reduce other forms of environmental pollution: the use of diesel engines in motorized yachts can lead to oil pollution in the water, which places a heavy burden on the marine ecosystem. We only use our turbo diesel engine when it is unavoidable - when mooring and casting off or in a persistent calm.

The sustainability concept also determined the extensive refit: the refurbishment of existing materials and the use of new low-carbon materials underline the environmental friendliness of the SY NORDPOHL. Modular solar cells provide electricity on board, and a water treatment system will convert seawater into drinking water.

As a sailor and ship owner, I am actively involved in protecting the oceans and participating in initiatives to clean up oceans and coastlines. By participating in MidsummerSail 2025, I support the focus on environmentally friendly technologies and methods in sailing, such as eliminating single-use plastic, using biodegradable materials and promoting recycling programs.
